Transition-Y6 into Y7
At Glossopdale High School, we are a warm, caring community school and are very proud of our students, staff and wonderful facilities. At the forefront of our culture is the wellbeing, happiness and future success of our young people, all underpinned by our THRIVE values of Tenacity, Hard Work, Responsibility, Independence, Visionary and Excellence.
During the school year, Ms Nevin, Lead for Transition, works closely with a team of staff to deliver a comprehensive and exciting transition calendar. There is a wide range of activities, for both our new Year 6 students and their parents, that takes place both at Glossopdale and within our local primary schools, helping all students and their parents and carers to feel confident, supported and familiar with secondary school life ahead of joining us.
In July, all students will be invited to attend two Transition Days at Glossopdale. During this visit, they will meet their form tutor, Head of Year and key members of our transition team, as well as take part in a range of lessons and activities designed to help them settle in. School staff, supported by some of our current students, will also visit our feeder primary schools to meet pupils who will be joining Glossopdale and answer any questions they may have.
To ensure that every student’s transition is as smooth and successful as possible, we place great importance on understanding each child as an individual. During the summer term, Ms Nevin and school staff meet with Year 6 teachers to discuss each student in detail, enabling us to provide the best possible support from the outset.
Further details about transition arrangements will be shared directly with families in the Spring Term.
