Headteacher's Welcome

A very warm welcome to Glossopdale School and Sixth Form. We are a happy, inclusive, ambitious and successful school where we enable all students to thrive.

We have the highest expectations of every child in the school community, both academically and pastorally, and we enact this vision by fostering our THRIVE values. We develop, reward and demonstrate Tenacity, Hard Work, Independence, Vision and Excellence in all that we do – in lessons, at social times, in our interactions with each other, in extra-curricular activities, at home and in the community. Our character curriculum at Glossopdale embeds opportunities for all students to explore how to embody these values and supports students towards their chosen future pathways.

Our academic curriculum has been created by subject experts passionate about their subject and its importance in students’ breadth of understanding. Our subject teachers enthuse students with a love of learning and have structured each subject curriculum in order for students to embed and secure their long-term learning. Ofsted commented that: “The school’s curriculum is ambitious and has been carefully designed so that pupils learn about increasingly complex aspects of the subjects they study.”

Students at Glossopdale School & Sixth Form have the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects from Y7 to Y13; across the Humanities, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Sciences, Technology, Sport and Social Sciences. Our students’ success is reflected in outstanding GCSE and ‘A’ Level outcomes, with the school achieving its best ever results in Summer 2024: students’ progress overall was above the national average.

We also have excellent pastoral care, with dedicated teams of support staff linked to each year group who work closely with students and families to ensure that all children’s needs are known and met.

All areas of our provision have been judged as ‘good’ by Ofsted and we are immensely proud of our many achievements.

The school has high expectations for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The aim is that pupils ‘thrive’ and show tenacity, hard work, responsibility, independence, vision and excellence........ Students in the sixth form talk about the positive and supportive environment they enjoy.......... Pupils develop positive relationships with their teachers. They feel safe.”

Despite these many and varied successes, we do not rest on our laurels and are always striving for improvement. So we will continue to reflect and build on our strengths while we maintain and celebrate the wonderful THRIVE culture that makes the school such a special place to be.

Above all, we ensure that every family, every student and every member of staff truly belongs to the Glossopdale community.
