We are delighted to offer students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Award, one of the UK's most respected youth development programmes. The award helps students develop independence, resilience, leadership, teamwork and confidence while gaining valuable experiences that support future college, university and employment applications.

To secure a place, students simply need to:

  • Complete the enrolment form: (insert link)

  • Pay a £50 deposit via ParentPay

The closing date for enrolment is 31st October 2026.

Which Award Can I Join?

We offer:

  • Bronze Award for Year 9 students

  • Silver Award for Year 10 students

  • Gold Award for Year 12 students

Students do not need to complete every level in order. Subject to age requirements, young people can join as a direct entrant at Silver or Gold level.

What Does the Award Involve?

The DofE Award is made up of four sections:

Bronze and Silver

  • Volunteering - helping others in the community

  • Physical - taking part in sport or physical activity

  • Skill - developing a new or existing skill

  • Expedition - planning, training for and completing an expedition

Gold

Gold participants complete all of the above, plus an additional:

  • Residential section - spending time away from home undertaking a shared activity with new people.

Students choose activities that interest them and work towards their award over several months, typically spending around one hour per week on each section.

More information can be found at: www.dofe.org

Expeditions

A highlight of the award is the expedition section.

  • Bronze and Silver expeditions take place within the Peak District National Park during the summer term.

  • Gold expeditions take place further afield, typically in areas such as the Lake District.

Students receive comprehensive training before their expedition and are supervised by experienced and qualified Glossopdale staff who generously volunteer their time to support the programme.

We can also discuss alternative options through the Approved Activity Provider (AAP) programme where appropriate.
