Learning Habits

We have 4 learning habits at Glossopdale School and Sixth Form

  1. Silent Independent Practice – This is when you are working on your own:

    • Assessments

    • Exit tickets to demonstrate understanding

    • Independent practice

    • Do now completion

  2. Engaged Whole Class - This is when the class are all focused on completing a specific task or activity together, this is often in silence too:

    • Teacher reading

    • Deliberate vocabulary instruction

    • Teacher explanations

    • Hinge questions, multiple choice questions

    • Teacher questioning using cold call, no-opt out questioning, say it again say it better and hunting not fishing

  3. Quiet Partners - This is when you are working in a pair, you can talk quietly about the work you are doing:

    • Collaborative questions

    • Think, pair, share

  4. Collaborative Groups - This is when you are working in a small group, where everyone has a specific role:

    • Dance and Drama group performance

    • Music group practice

    • Technology Practicals

    • Food Technology Practicals

    • Science investigations

    • PE practical lessons
